Stage 1 | Easy Route City replaced by mountain air
From HIGH INNSBRUCK to the UMBRÜGGLER ALM
Route Day 1
Altitude profile day 1
The sight Goldenes Dachl is the starting point of the first stage. You leave the town centre and walk towards the river Inn. Follow the promenade until you have reached the station Kongress/Löwenhaus and get onto the line Hungerburgbahn. The modern railway will take you within 8 minutes and over steep rails, all the way up to the top station. Get off the line and you have reached the square Hermann-Buhl-Platz. Enjoy the fantastic view over Innsbruck, the ‘local mountain’ Patscherkofel, the mountains Serles and Nockspitze as well as the rugged massif of the Kalkkögel. Far away from the city‘ s fuss, you leave the borough Hungerburg behind and start to ascend towards the mountain hut Umbrüggler Alm. Paths in perfect condition lead you, after 40 minutes and quickly gained altitude, to your first destination.
The Umbrüggler Alm has a beautiful outdoor terrace, overlooking Innsbruck and an avant-garde designed interior. New interpreted, Tyrolean dishes will be served. In case you are not hungry, just take a seat in one of the deckchairs on the terrace and enjoy the view.
Descent to Kranebitten
After you have recharged your batteries, you will start with a short descent towards the chapel Höttinger Bild (905 m). On your way you will cross the so-called Höttinger Graben and reach at the end the pilgrimage chapel. Via a steep rooty track you continue until you have arrived at the city district Kranebitten. At the bus station your transfer is already waiting for you and takes you to your accommodation in the village Obsteig, Mieminger Plateau.
